One step closer to a pure vessel

Acupuncture has been practiced in China for more than 2,000 years (though some think it has been around for 4,000 years). Today, the needles are twirled, heated, or even stimulated with weak electrical current, ultrasound, or certain wavelengths of light. But no matter how it is done, scientific research can never demonstrate that unblocking Qi by acupuncture or any other means is effective against any disease. Qi is defined as being undetectable by the methods of empirical science.

It is a traditional Chinese medical technique for unblocking Qi (ch'i or qi) by inserting needles at particular points on the body to balance the opposing forces of yin and yang. Qi is an energy that allegedly permeates all things. It is believed to flow through the body along 14 main pathways called meridians. When yin and yang are in harmony, Qi flows freely within the body and a person is healthy. When a person is sick, diseased, or injured, there is an obstruction of Qi along one of the meridians. Traditional Chinese medicine has identified some 500 specific points where needles are to be inserted for specific effects.

Tui Na literally translates to "push pull" and is the name given to Chinese Medical Massage. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tui Na incorporates techniques that are similar to Western and Asian massage, chiropractic, osteopathic, and western physical therapy. Tui Na uses a variety of hand techniques and passive and active stretching to restore correct anatomical musculo-skeletal relationships, neuromuscular patterns, and to increase the circulation of Qi and Blood to remove biochemical irritants. Acupoints may be selected to rebalance and harmonize the flow of Qi and Blood through the organ meridians in order to facilitate healing and prevent further injury. This also includes shoulder problems, joint pain, back, hip, thigh, knee, lower leg and ankle disorders. Tui Na is appropriate for both acute and chronic pain. Although affecting the entire body, this treatment focuses on supporting the functions of the Lungs, Spleen, and Kidney meridians, with the goal of boosting the body's inherent immune system. The practitioner will also request that the client arrive neither too hungry nor too full (ie: if one is hungry, they should eat; if one is full, they should digest). If you are coming immediately after work, it would be appropriate to have a small snack mid-afternoon, or an hour before arriving. If the concern is acute, one to three treatments, as soon as possible, are often sufficient to resolve the pain and improve flexibility. If the problem is chronic, treatment on a weekly, twice monthly, or monthly schedule may be advised.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the great herbal systems of the world, with an unbroken tradition going back to the 3rd century BC. Yet throughout its history it has continually developed in response to changing clinical conditions, and has been sustained by research into every aspect of its use. This process continues today with the development of modern medical diagnostic techniques and knowledge.

Chinese herbal medicine, along with the other components of Chinese medicine, is based on the concepts of Yin and Yang. It aims to understand and treat the many ways in which the fundamental balance and harmony between the two may be undermined and the ways in which a person's Qi or vitality may be depleted or blocked. Clinical strategies are based upon diagnosis of patterns of signs and symptoms that reflect an imbalance.

However, the tradition as a whole places great emphasis on lifestyle management in order to prevent disease before it occurs. Chinese medicine recognizes that health is more than just the absence of disease and it has a unique capacity to maintain and enhance our capacity for well being and happiness.

There is a growing body of research which indicates that traditional uses of plant remedies and the known pharmacological activity of plant constituents often coincide. However, herbal medicine is distinct from medicine based on pharmaceutical drugs. Firstly, because of the complexity of plant materials it is far more balanced than medicine based on isolated active ingredients and is far less likely to cause side-effects. Secondly, because herbs are typically prescribed in combination, the different components of a formulae balance each other, and they undergo a mutual synergy which increases efficacy and enhances safety. Thirdly, herbal medicine seeks primarily to correct internal imbalances rather than to treat symptoms alone, and therapeutic intervention is designed to encourage this self-healing process.

Chinese medicine is successfully used for a very wide range of conditions. Among the more commonly treated disorders are:

*Skin disease, including eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, urticaria

*Gastro-intestinal disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, ulcerative colitis

*Gynecological conditions, including pre-menstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhoea, endometriosis, infertility

*Hepatitis and HIV: some promising results have been obtained for treatment of Hepatitis C, and supportive treatment may be beneficial in the case of HIV

*Chronic fatigue syndromes, whether with a background of viral infection or in other situations

*Respiratory conditions, including asthma, bronchitis, and chronic coughs, allergic and perennial rhinitis and sinusitis

*Rheumatological conditions (e.g. osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis)

*Urinary conditions including chronic cystitis *Diabetes, including treatment and prevention *Psychological problems (e.g. depression, anxiety)

Chinese herbal medicines are very safe when prescribed correctly by a properly trained practitioner. Over the centuries doctors have compiled detailed information about the pharmacopoiea and placed great emphasis on the protection of the patient. Allergic type reactions are rare, and will cause no lasting damage if treatment is stopped as soon as symptoms appear.

*Ear Candling: Touted as a natural therapy, ear candling was practiced by the ancient Egyptians and Chinese. In centuries past, however, the practice most often was reserved for royalty and renowned warriors. Today, ear candling is practiced by such groups as the Amish and other believers in home remedies and natural healing methods. Unlike the common everyday-style candle, ear candles are made from a cotton cloth that has been soaked in pure beeswax and rolled to form a hollow tube. The tube is narrowed at one end to fit in the ear canal. This truly amazing technique utilizes a hollow candle coated with wax. The instructions are simple. One end of the ear candle is placed snugly into the ear, and the other end is the one you light. The lighting of the candle creates a gentle vacuum that can soften and dislodge wax and debris and pull it into the ear candle.Ear candling is a very effective way you can totally cleanse your ears. There is debris inside the ears that cannot be reached with fingertips or Q-tips alone. Impacted wax, fungus, past residues of infection, fat globules build up in the ear and hide in the crevices. For example, people who have candida yeast typically have an accumulation of fungus in the ears. Because the ear is dark and moist, it provides a perfect environment for yeast to breed. It is close to the blood supply that comes up into the head and therefore is supplied by a major food source.
